Beer Cross is six acres of former pasture on the very edge of Dartmoor, planted out eleven years ago with around 3,500 native broadleaf trees. Cherry, field maple, spindle, ash, oak, walnut and hazel. Plots sit within a one acre section of the field, with wide views towards Cosdon Hill, Beacon and Belstone Tor.

They take both full burial and ashes interment, and they publish their prices, which almost nobody in this sector does. An ashes plot is £450 with a £200 interment fee and £150 grave preparation. A full burial plot is £800 with a £400 interment fee.

The unusual thing here is living funerals. If someone has bought a plot and knows they have little time left, Beer Cross will host a celebration of their life while they are still there to be part of it. There is a shelter seating about thirty, or it can happen outside in good weather. Two have been held so far.

They are also set up for families who want to run the funeral themselves. Twenty one of their ninety one burials to date have been done without a funeral director, and they will help with choosing a coffin from local craftsmen.

The site is unmanned so you can visit whenever you like, and the long term plan is to coppice the trees so the ground renews itself rather than filling up. It will never be developed or reused. They are the closest woodland burial site to Dartmoor and members of the Association of Natural Burial Grounds.
