Hill Holt Wood is an award-winning woodland social enterprise with charitable status near Norton Disney in Lincolnshire, running education, forestry and health programmes alongside the burial ground. Choosing them puts money into all of that rather than into a private operator.

Burials take place at Norton Big Wood, in ancient woodland. The burial area itself is a small clearing surrounded by birch, larch and pine with mature oaks standing over it.

Ashes are accepted two ways. A casket can be interred in an area set aside for it, or ashes can be scattered in a separate spot. Full burial is available too, and you can choose where within the burial area.

Wakes can be held at Wood Hall, five minutes from the burial site, with in-house catering going back more than twenty years and a glass-walled dining room looking into the wood. Very few natural burial grounds can do the whole day in one place to that standard.

Memorials include wooden benches from £500 to £750, wooden ash caskets at £150, and bird, owl and bat boxes from £40.
